EUropean YOUTH EVENT 2016

European Youth Event (EYE) is a bi-annual event organised by and at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. It is dedicated to thousands of European young activists that will attend diverse activities onsite and participate to debate with parliamentarian and experts in field going from environmentalism to society inclusion or immigration.

During this event, I've worked with Katharina Tillmanns and Carmen Johann to design and organise different digital game-based activities around politics and social issues. A series of 15 workshops and 5 debate were held at the Parliament to play games such as Papers, Please by Lucas Pope or Democracy 3 by Cliff Harris and have a discussion with game designers, political experts and the audience on the topics tackled by each game. Using gameplay to simulate and analyse structural interrelations of our socio-economic system on the one hand, and on the other hand to initiate a political discourse between different stakeholders was quiet an experiment, so we are very pleased about the vibrant and controversial discussions of the sessions.

In parallel, we've also organised the YOUROPE Game Challenge in partnership with ARTE and the European Parliment where game developers could submit game projects and prototypes. A total of 81 games were sent to the challenge and 5 of them have been nominated and selected by a dedicated team of 7 juries made of game designers, media critics and political experts. The finalists have been exhibited for two days at the European Parliament during the EYE.
